Full reinstall after another installer
I do not take on patching up someone else’s install. In another person’s wiring there is no way to see what was cut, what was twisted together and what was fed to the wrong wire — and I would be the one answering for the result. So I only do full reinstalls: the old work comes out, the system goes back in from scratch.
Why I do not patch
Every patch job is work done blind. A wire may be twisted and taped deep inside a loom, an immobilising circuit cut into a line it has nothing to do with, and a bypass module with a factory key glued under the dash. Finding all of that costs more than doing the job properly.
And the main thing: after a patch the owner quite reasonably considers the whole install mine. The first fault coming out of the old part is my phone call and my reputation. I do not sign up for that.
How it goes
- You send the model, year and what is fitted now. If you can take a photo of the wiring under the dash, send that too.
- I look at the car. If the previous install is sound and the problem is local, I will say so — I do not push a reinstall for its own sake.
- If a reinstall is needed, the old work comes out completely, including the bypass module if there is one.
- I build the system again: CAN/LIN connections, soldered joints, looms in factory channels.
- I show you every function, set up the app and stay reachable afterwards.
What usually needs redoing
- A bypass module with a factory key glued under the dash.
- Taped twists instead of soldered joints.
- Control unit and wiring left loose — they chafe and rattle over time.
- Functions the owner was promised at the point of sale but that were never actually wired.
What else I do
FAQ
Wouldn’t it be easier to pay the original installer?
Often yes, and I will say so if I see the install is sound. I do not push a reinstall for its own sake.
Can the existing equipment be kept?
If the unit works and suits you — yes, I reinstall the same one. If not, I will suggest another.
How long does it take?
Same as a custom install: 5 to 12 hours, 8 on average. Plus the time to strip the old work, which depends on how it was done.
What about warranty?
I answer for my own work personally. StarLine equipment carries the factory warranty — 3 years, up to 5 with registration at my.starline.ru.
Will you just diagnose it, without a reinstall?
Yes. Looking at the car and telling you what was done and how serious it is — that is a fair request.
What does it cost?
The price depends on the car and the set of functions. Send the model, year and trim — I quote an exact figure before the work starts, with no surprises later.
Let’s talk about your car
Send the make, model and year — I’ll tell you which functions can be wired on it, how long it takes and what it costs.
